Know your Governator. Schwartzenegger has had his hand in the political pot for years. He went on the campaign trail with Bush (Part I & II) and married Maria Shriver (i.e. a Kennedy). As early as the late 80s, he has stated in numerous interviews that he has political aspirations. I don't think that California felt that they couldn't do any worse with a political nobody. I think a combination of economic anger, star-power, and a GOP platform promising "change and reform" ushered the Schwartzenegger into the Governor's Mansion. The thing is, with Davis' career in politics going back about 30 years, with a stint as the state comptroller, AND lieutenant governor, they HAD an "able manager", and he didn't do his job. That's why they stuck it there. CA voted in a political nobody because how could he possibly make anything worse than someone with 30 years of experience did.
