I'm personally quite greatful such a place as Zaytoon's has opened up it's doors! It's affordable, food and service are excellent, and the atmosphere is friendly, warm and incredibly welcoming. They contribute to the community atmosphere of Alberta Street by participating in Last Thursday events as well as Film Night every Monday evening of the month. And their menu for food and drinks is both unique and appetizing! I am fast becoming a regular as Zaytoon's is as relaxing as it is impressive. You've really got to check this place out!

I don't understand why alberta is constantly targeted as a place of gentrification when its development has happened organically, whereas Mississippi whose development has been forced never has that word attached. Of course we can always debate whether taking boarded up shops and turning them into nice places is a bad thing. Also, the WW really pissed me off in their Finder, because that's all they talked about in reference to Alberta (I think they've maybe made some amends in the latest issue but I haven't read it), with this classic statement (roughly) -- 'what kind of diversity is it to have Earl's barbershop next to a make your own pottery place' . Well if you have to ask that question you're a friggin moron and should go back to being a sophomore because you were probably a better writer then. Not ranting at you Bill, but you reminded me of a sensitive spot the WW poked awhile ago.

My wife and I went here for a drink about a month ago before having dinner at Ciao Vito (which left a lot to be desired in our opinion) across the street. My first reaction was that this was the mismatched end result of years of gentrification in the area, but we warmed up to the bustling, modern atmosphere quickly. The food looked great, and seemed fairly affordable for such a space... We opted for booze instead of beer (or food), and weren't dissapointed with their well-crafted coctails one bit. We'd go back for sure. There appeared to be some kind of art show going on upstairs by the starwars-esque gangplank.
