National stuff is interesting. The alphabet soup of agencies are getting scary.
Bringing health of various kinds down to a local level, we have a water bureau wanting to sell off to Goldman Sachs, it appears, to put water underground with dead animals, radon, and specially brewed unidentified, so far, chemicals, included mixing water from wells near the Columbia.

This has some serious ramifications for both home brewers and micro-brewers. I linked over here from a blog, looking for people who might care about this admittedly geeky concern.

Any takers? You can go to citizensforportlandswater.org or .com if you are interested in this. There isn't much time to stop this heist.

I think we're arguing the same thing. My issue is that we're taking the bait here. Politically, abortion is a wedge issue and a trap. We need to resist like water. When they introduce an amendment, counter by deferring to existing law. The fight for health care and the fight for women's reproductive rights cannot be intermingled.

So leaving the topic of abortion out of the health care bill IS what the 'liberal side" wants. I'm no expert, but I think I'm fairly well-informed and as far as I've heard there are no attempts from any pro-choice organizations, or other liberal groups to include any specific coverage or mention of abortion rights in the health care bill. What we're angered at is the conservative sides pushing to include an amendment that increases restrictions already set in place regarding federal funding for abortions. Yes - the health care bill in and of itself is MUCH more important that this single issue, but if that bill goes through with the final final care bill, it is a huge step in the wrong direction for allowing women access to the sad, but sometimes needed service. We shouldn't let it stop us from passing health care - but we also shouldn't let them strong-arm us into going down without a fight.
